The Sixth International Congress on Health and Wellness Tourism brought together representatives from 10 countries.
On the last day, an Investment Breakfast was held where new projects in the sector were presented with an estimated value of US$331 million that will generate 4,050 jobs.
For three days, the sixth edition of the International Congress on Health and Wellness Tourism brought together multisector leaders from Panama, Colombia, Guatemala, Uruguay, the United States, Argentina, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic, at the main venue for medical tourism in Central America and the Caribbean.
As part of this biennial event, the Minister of Health, Dr. Daniel Rivera, presented a copy of the 2030 Health Plan (PLANDES 2030) to the congress organizers, Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, president of the Dominican Health Tourism Association (ADTS), and Amelia Reyes Mora, president of AF Comunicación Estratégica and vice president of ADTS.
The official highlighted the efforts of Cambiaso and Reyes Mora in positioning health tourism in the Dominican Republic, encouraging the Dominican government to adopt the issue as part of its agenda in the health and tourism sectors.
This edition of the congress featured more than 40 national and international speakers, and Dr. Cambiaso presented the results of the second Study and Diagnosis of Health Tourism in the Dominican Republic.
Recognitions
As is tradition, recognitions were given on the opening night of the congress. This time, recognition went to the Medical Center for Diabetes, Obesity, and Specialties (CEMDOE) for being the first outpatient health center in the country accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI). Recognition also went to the Dominican Institute for Quality (INDOCAL) for promoting the adoption of the NORDOM ISO 22525:2020 Technical Standard for medical tourism, approved by the Dominican Council for Quality (CODOCA), which promotes protocols and standards that will increase confidence in the country as a destination for the provision of healthcare services.
